NHS/SBS Visit (April 8, 2010)

On 8 Apr’10, members from NHS/SBS, David Edmonds (Chairman, NHS Shared Business Services), John Neilson (Managing Director, NHS SBS), Monica Owen (Marketing Director, NHS SBS), Bill Shields (Director of Finance & Performance, South West SHA), Steve Clarke (Director of Finance, NHS East of England) visited Kalyani Vidyalaya. They were welcomed by Mr. Sapkal (Founder of the School) and the teachers. The special children performed a dance and drill. The guests also visited the new vocational training centre set up in the Kalyani Vidyalaya. Milk and cakes were distributed to the children. 

500 children from 11 Steria supported schools participation

The first camp was organised from 5 to 22 Apr for 40 girls appeared for the SSC board exam. It was a vocational camp and girls were taught ceramic pots, bridal mehendi, rangoli, greeting cards etc. they also learnt some life skill classes, social Legislation, Legal Literacy, Domestic Violence, HIV/AIDS, Women health, importance of nutritious food etc. this camp was organized in affiliation with Swadhar (NGO) & Forbs Marshal. On the 23 Apr girls were invited to Steria to show their skills. Priyanka from Nigdi Girls High School presented one poem about her experience in the camp.  

Two camps were conducted from 18 to 22 & 25 to 29 April. They were basically focused on three activities ie. How to improve your handwriting, magic show training, statue making. The camp was for 3 hours from 9 AM to 12 Noon. The hand writing classes were conducted by Ms. Kiran Vatsa who is conducting professional classes out side as well. Magic show training was conducted by well none magician in Maharashatra Mr. Suryakant Salve. This activity increased their level of confidence & stage daring. The statue making training was conducted by Mr. Shankar Kumbhar they taught children how to make & colour the statues of plaster of paris. Children were divided into 3 groups and they were moving to one after another activity after every 1 hour. Camp was conducted in Nigdi Primary School & Ganage High School. In both of the camps Priti Nerkar SIFGSS student were involved in hand writing activity. Every day she introduced English new 20 words to the children from the word bank prepared by the volunteers. Last day she conducted spelling competition for all the children as well. Every day children got the packed snacks from Steria. 300 children got the benefit of this camp.  

Summer Camp Finale

Summer camp finale: on 23 Apr 10 summer camp finale was organized in Steria Pune office. Children arrived at 5.30 PM to the office. They presented few dance shows & magic show. They also demonstrated the other skills acquired in the camp through the speech & poems. The comparing of the program done by the SIFGSS students Swapnil & Preeti it self. Then they were praised by the CSR team members & volunteers by giving gifts for their creativity in the crafts, attendance etc. trophies were distributed to the winners of the inter school spelling competition by the CSR volunteers. The program was followed by the delicious dinner arranged in the Steria cafeteria for the children.  

Summer Camp at Jagriti Blind Girls

Summer camp at Jagriti Blind Girls School: from 16 to 28 Apr 10 summer camp was organised in Jagriti for 50 inmates. Activities like – mobility, candle making, dressing & Judo karate were involved in the camp. Steria sponsored sports wear for 150 girls. CSR volunteers visited this camp and helped to the girls to follow the instruction of the trainer through out the camp. Special thanks to Uday Sandbhor, Vrushali Jadhav, Dipti Deshmane, Anita Gore, Dipti Patel.  

Army Based Camp

Army based training was conducted by Mr. Gopi Shetty for 60 children from various Steria supported schools. It was from 18 to 22 Apr. in the camp activities like rock climbing, yoga, lectures about merchant navy, leadership qualities etc. were covered. Swapnil Panadi the student of SIFGSS was participated in this camp as an instructor.  

 

Training Program on Volleyball and Football

5 days foot ball (for boys) & volley ball (for girls) training was conducted for 110 children from 6 PCMC schools. This use to start early in the morning at 7.30 AM due to the summer & ends at 10.30 AM. In this camp Swapnil (SIFGSS student) along with Steria CSR volunteer Supriyo Biswas acted as a coach for foot ball. Special thanks to Supriyo Biswas for the volunteering in the camp.
