HQ School Visit

SteriaOn 5 July'10, Claire from Soderi Board, France visited the HQ School (Thiruporur HS School) and met with the Principal, Teachers and the students of Class 6. She showed the children a film on Paris and explained the various places of interest in Paris. In a meeting held with the Principal and members of the Parent Teacher Association, Claire and the CSR team discussed on the requirements of the school. It was agreed that the school would send the list of requirements and the quotations to understand if HQ could think of funding. Claire & Gayathri together are exploring the possibility of involving trainee volunteers from Alliance Francaise to come and work in the school, especially preparing the sports ground and the kitchen garden. In the meantime, Shobha Tirkey would explore other possibilities of clearing the grounds to make a proper sports area. Claire also visited Padma Adarsh School and later met with Marie & Juliette. 

Tree Plantation Drive

SteriaOn 6 July'10, as part of Environment initiatives, 20 saplings were planted in Steria supported Rupeenagar Primary School in Pune. This is a joint initiative implemented by the Forest Department - PCMC, the Education Department - PCMC, Steria and the school authorities. Volunteers from Steria also participated in the plantation drive. 



Enterprise Client Visit

SteriaOn 10 July'10, Andrew Hickson - Enterprise along with Ian Bentley of Steria UK, visited Padma Adarsh School. They distributed biscuits to the children of the Primary School and then later visited the old age home, rehabilitation centre and orphanage home. A contribution of Rs.10000 was made as sponsorship for prizes to be given on the sports day on 15 July'10.

On 15 July 2010, Sports Day was conducted in Padma Adarsh Primary School by 25 Steria staff volunteers and the teachers. Games were conducted for the children from Class 1 to Class 5. Two winners from each category received prizes sponsored by Enterprise, our client. Carrom boards for each class were given as gifts to the school. Each child received a pencil box with stationery as a personal gift. Many thanks to Andrew Hickson, Ian Bentley and the CSR volunteers for organising this annual sports event.

Bhumi Competitions

On 11 July'10, Bhumi - an NGO working with disadvantaged children organised the annual event - Sirugugal, where children from 37 orphanage homes across Chennai participate in competitions. The competitions consist of paintings & drawings, debates, speeches, etc. 18 children from Padma Adarsh orphanage home participated in this Sirugugal event. Our student, Mohanapriya from Padma Adarsh won the second prize in the English speech competition.

Mentor Training

On 13 July'10, a two hour Mentorship Training was conducted for the first time through Video Conferencing by Gayathri Mohan (India CSR Head) from Chennai and Chaitrali S Inamdar (CSR Champion) in Pune. The training session included the details of Steria Mentorship Programme, how to conduct including some dos and donts for the mentors to follow during their interaction with the children. 40 children from four Steria supported schools will participate in this programme from July to December. The children will come to Steria Pune office once every week and spend time with their mentors.
