Steria Scholars join Steria

Our Steria Scholars – S.Sangeetha (Engineering graduate) and Anish Harrison (Computer Science graduate) have completed their courses and joined Steria in July 2011. Sangeetha joined as a Software Engineer Trainee and Anish joined as a Process Associate in BSCO team in Chennai. We now have 2 Steria Scholars working as colleagues in Steria.

Steria staff help Students

  • P.Savitha from CFS/Britannia account in Chennai came forward to support a deserving student – Mohammed Mohinuddin (son of an auto-rickshaw driver), a 4th year B.E student, with his final year college fees. Despite the hard work put in by his father, he was still falling short by Rs.11000 which was made good by Savitha. The matching funds of Rs.6000/- were used to pay the school fees of Devi, a bright and deserving girl from Class 12 of Padma Adarsh HS School Vaniyanchavadi, Chennai.
  • R. Anand from Facilities Chennai raised funds to help J.Parveen (daughter of a plumber), a 2nd year B.E. student. Contributions to the extent of Rs.25000/- were received from G.V.Singh and his team in Noida and Rs.6000 from staff in Chennai. A matching funds of Rs.25000/- was arranged by the CSR team which was the shortage for the 2nd year fees.

Help to extended staff

Two of our extended staff (housekeeping staff) lost their thatched houses and all their belongings in a fire accident in Sholinganallur, Chennai, close by to our office in Chennai. They needed help to settle down once again. The CSR team along with a few volunteers from BT account collected clothes, provisions, vessels and other essential household items and handed over to the two ladies.

Living Green – Poster Making Competition

SteriaA ‘poster making competition’ was held on Chennai campus on 22 July 2011. This was a part of the Living Green – India schedule, and the chosen theme for the competition was ‘environment’. 17 teams, each consisting of 5 members participated in this event, which was judged by Murali Narayanan (F&A) and R.Anand (Facilities). While the Barclays team walked away with the first prize, the runners up honours went to the Southern Europe and the Tesco teams. Also as part of the ‘Living Green’ campaign, a tree plantation drive was held at the Panchayat Union Middle School, Sholinganallur, a Steria supported Chennai school. 100 trees were planted around the compound wall of the school, a collective effort of the children, teachers, our staff volunteers and the CSR team.

A similar ‘poster making competition’ was also conducted at Noida (Noida2 and SEZ) by the Green Committee members of Noida. Here, a total of 19 teams all wearing green coloured T-shirts, in keeping with the theme, participated in the contest.

The posters were judged by the senior management on the basis of 'Aesthetics, Relevance, Slogan and Creativity. The Club Greene Team (Ravi, Deepika and Divya Garg) were the winners, the runner up were Veyron’s Team (Shipra, Smily, Preeti, Anjali & Renu) and the Hum’e’ns Team (Bhawna, Nimisha, Rachita, Divya and Girija). All the winners were given certificates by Piyush Rakhecha and G.V.Singh.

Merit Awards 2011 – Chennai

Steria 152 students have been selected from 11 Steria supported high schools in Chennai and given the merit awards for excellent academic performance. These awards carry prizes of Rs.3000, Rs.1800 and Rs.1500 depending on the recommendations from the school authorities. The awards are given to students of Class 9 and Class 11, not only as a reward for good performance but also as an incentive to continue schooling and go on to aim to study further through college and beyond.
