Environment Project -50 children from Talawade school
trained March 6, 2009

On 3 March
2009, Steria India CSR in association with INORA
(Institute of Natural Organic agriculture) conducted a
day's workshop on 'vermi-composting' at Talawade PCMC
Primary School. 50 children and three teachers of the
school attended this program.
The main objective
was to demonstrate to the children how bio-degradable waste and
can be converted to a useful substance by composting and how if
the waste is left to decompose, it could result in the outbreak
of disease and epidemics. The visiting INORA staff also
conducted a practical session for the children of the school's
environment club and launched a waste management program in the
school. The children on their part assured them that they would
take the program forward and ensure that the earthworms are
regularly fed and taken care of well.

A concert by
the differently abled
On 1 March 2009,
a charity musical show was held at Ramakrishna More Sabhagruha,
Pune, organized by Anandwan and Prism Foundation. The show was
sponsored by Steria India CSR, with the proceeds going to
various charities like - Maharogi Sewa Samiti which works for
the eradication of leprosy, Prism foundation which works for the
mentally challenged children, Dynyanprabodini School which works
for the children from the earthquake affected areas of
Maharashtra and the Rural College at Winzar.
What was
remarkable is that all the artists including the musicians and
the stage performers were all physically challenged boys and
girls. The ease and perfection with which they performed various
Hindi and Marathi film and folk numbers had the audience in
raptures and one could not even assume in one's wildest dreams
that all of them are either deaf or dumb or blind or have some
other form of physical disability.
Steria staff
volunteers with their families and also teachers from Steria
supported schools attended this function.

along with staff CSR volunteers organized a day's trip to Khodad
to attend and learn from this exhibition - for 70 children of
class11 and their teachers - belonging to Dyandeep Vidyalaya, a
Steria supported school.
At the
exhibition, the children had a first hand exposure to telescopes
and their working, besides information on the solar system
comprising of the various stars, constellations, the outer
