Steria

The One Steria, One Country, One School programme in India - a global community initiative of Steria India CSR, got off to a thumping start on 28 February 2009, with the inauguration of the first Computer Centre at the Government Higher Secondary School, Thiruporur, in Chengelpet District. This school, in Thiruporur, is located on the Chengelpet Road, around 10 kms from Steria Chennai campus.

The One Steria, One Country, One School programme in India, offers a single unifying platform on which the 16 different Steria Group subsidiaries each sponsor at least one school in India. This is in line with the Group's overall integration mantra - One Steria! The school at Thiruporur is being supported by Steria Norway with Steria India CSR being the implementation partner.

The newly inaugurated computer centre has been entirely funded from contributions made by Steria Norway staff and will go a long way in bringing technology and computer literacy to more than 1500 students of the school as well as to the immediate rural community of a village in the remote interior of Tamilnadu.

Poonam's good deed - Steria CSR volunteer - February 20, 2009

On her way home, Poonam Thakkar, a Steria CSR volunteer, often found a little boy playing on the roadside. Enquiries revealed that he was the son of a poor riksha puller and did not have a mother. The pavement was his home and he often went hungry to sleep. The boy's plight touched Poonam, and with the help of the Noida CSR team, arranged for the boy to be accommodated in Rajendra Ashram, an orphanage for boys supported by Steria. The boy, Shankar, now has not only a roof over his head, but also, food, clothing and above all an education with the promise of a bright future. His father, the poor riksha puller could not have asked for more. For Poonam, the smile on her face tells its own story.
