NHS SBS is delighted to support schools in India, providing more than 600 school bags to pupils in Pune, Noida and Chennai

Hundreds of young people from schools across the country have taken part in a number of Steria-supported Summer Camps this year, and the school bags enable pupils to organise their books and other valuable learning resources ready for the new academic year. John Neilson, Managing Director of NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) said "It is so important for us to support local educational projects, and the school bags are a really practical way for us to do this. We were very pleased to be involved in this project and can see that it makes a real difference to so many young people".

Carbon offsetting initiative - 1750 saplings planted in since Nov’08

Steria India CSR had launched a carbon offsetting initiative last year on 5 Nov'08 as part of our Environment initiative. The idea was to neutralize the carbon footprint that we create on account of our official air travel. Each domestic return flight releases 0.63 tonnes of carbondioxide per head while each international flight (Europe) - 1.81 tonnes – (www.climatecare.org). Accordingly we had decided to plant one sapling for each domestic flight and three saplings for each international return flight (ref: Carbon Neutral, Auroville, Pondicherry).

As per data received from our Travel Dept., during the period November 2008 to June 2009, there were 598 domestic return flights and 791 international flights. This translates into a sapling planting target of 2971 plants.

On 6 July'09, Steria India CSR along with the Isha Foundation planted 800 saplings at Mambakkam village in the outskirts of Chennai. These included fruit bearing trees like mango, chikoo and gooseberry along with other flowering trees. Details of tree planting so far……………..

We have planted a total of 1750 saplings and the balance of 1221 saplings will also be completed as we go along.

We have kept a number of green boxes at various locations and whenever you go to collect your air ticket/forex etc., please drop a few coins into the box. This will help us to accelerate the whole process so that at all times our tree planting is able to keep pace with our carbon footprint on account of our air travel.

We sincerely appeal to all employees to support this initiative by contributing to this cause. A number of green boxes have been kept at various locations in our offices to collect any contribution you may make whenever you travel by flights. These green boxes are kept at the Receptions, in the Travel Desk Dept., and at the CSR team area. Your support and contributions will help us to accelerate the whole process so that at all times our tree planting is able to keep pace with our carbon footprint on account of our air travel.
